The TCL 3 Series is poor for watching movies. Its great contrast ratio helps it display deep blacks, but it has poor black uniformity. It's limited to a 720p resolution, so it's not suitable for watching high-resolution content, such as from Blu-rays.
The TCL 3 Series is disappointing for gaming. It has a decent response time but its input lag may be too high for reaction-based games. Also, the 720p resolution is too low for most modern games. Luckily, it displays deep blacks if you want to game in dark rooms.
